TCP Custom Outdoor Living

This freestanding covered patio with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace is the perfect retreat! Just a few steps away from the home, this covered patio is about 500 square feet.

The homeowner had an existing structure they wanted replaced. This new one has a custom built wood burning fireplace with an outdoor kitchen and is a great area for entertaining. The flooring is a travertine tile in a Versailles pattern over a concrete patio. The outdoor kitchen has an L-shaped counter with plenty of space for prepping and serving meals as well as space for dining. The fascia is stone and the countertops are granite. The wood-burning fireplace is constructed of the same stone and has a ledgestone hearth and cedar mantle. What a perfect place to cozy up and enjoy a cool evening outside. The structure has cedar columns and beams. The vaulted ceiling is stained tongue and groove and really gives the space a very open feel. We were contacted by a family named Pesek who lived near Memorial Drive on the West side of Houston. They lived in a stately home built in the late 1950’s. Many years back, they had contracted a local pool company to install an old lagoon-style pool, which they had since grown tired of. When they initially called us, they wanted to know if we could build them an outdoor room at the far end of the swimming pool. We scheduled a free consultation at a time convenient to them, and we drove out to their residence to take a look at the property. After a quick survey of the back yard, rear of the home, and the swimming pool, we determined that building an outdoor room as an addition to their existing landscaping design would not bring them the results they expected.

The pool was visibly dated with an early “70’s” look, which not only clashed with the late 50’s style of home architecture, but guaranteed an even greater clash with any modern-style outdoor room we constructed. Luckily for the Peseks, we offered an even better landscaping plan than the one they had hoped for. We proposed the construction of a new outdoor room and an entirely new swimming pool. Both of these new structures would be built around the classical geometry of proportional right angles. This would allow a very modern design to compliment an older home, because basic geometric patterns are universal in many architectural designs used throughout history. In this case, both the swimming pool and the outdoor rooms were designed as interrelated quadrilateral forms with proportional right angles that created the illusion of lengthened distance and a sense of Classical elegance. This proved a perfect complement to a house that had originally been built as a symbolic emblem of a simpler, more rugged and absolute era. Though reminiscent of classical design and complimentary to the conservative design of the home, the interior of the outdoor room was ultra-modern in its array of comfort and convenience. The Peseks felt this would be a great place to hold birthday parties for their child. With this new outdoor room, the Peseks could take the party outside at any time of day or night, and at any time of year. We also built the structure to be fully functional as an outdoor kitchen as well as an outdoor entertainment area. There was a smoker, a refrigerator, an ice maker, and a water heater—all intended to eliminate any need to return to the house once the party began. Seating and entertainment systems were also added to provide state of the art fun for adults and children alike. We installed a flat-screen plasma TV, and we wired it for cable. The swimming pool was built between the outdoor room and the rear entrance to the house. We got rid of the old lagoon-pool design which geometrically clashed with the right angles of the house and outdoor room. We then had a completely new pool built, in the shape of a rectangle, with a rather innovative coping design. We showcased the pool with a coping that rose perpendicular to the ground out of the stone patio surface. This reinforced our blend of contemporary look with classical right angles. We saved the client an enormous amount of money on travertine by setting the coping so that it does not overhang with the tile. Because the ground between the house and the outdoor room gradually dropped in grade, we used the natural slope of the ground to create another perpendicular right angle at the end of the pool. Here, we installed a waterfall which spilled over into a heated spa. Although the spa was fed from within itself, it was built to look as though water was coming from within the pool. The ultimate result of all of this is a new sense of visual “ebb and flow,” so to speak. When Mr. Pesek sits in his couch facing his house, the earth appears to rise up first into an illuminated pool which leads the way up the steps to his home.

When he sits in his spa facing the other direction, the earth rises up like a doorway to his outdoor room, where he can comfortably relax in the water while he watches TV. For more the 20 years Exterior Worlds has specialized in servicing many of Houston’s fine neighborhoods.

With aluminum shutters to block the hot western sun, fans to move the air, and heaters for cool evenings, make the space extremely comfortable. This has become the most used room «in» the house.

With a sizeable backyard and a love for entertaining, these clients wanted to build a covered outdoor kitchen/bar and seating area. They had one specific area by the side of their pool, with limited space, to build the outdoor kitchen. There were immediate concerns about how to incorporate the two steps in the middle of the patio area; and they really wanted a bar that could seat at least eight people (to include an additional seating area with couches and chairs). This couple also wanted to use their outdoor living space year round. The kitchen needed ample storage and had to be easy to maintain. And last, but not least, they wanted it to look beautiful! This 16 x 26 ft clear span pavilion was a great fit for the area we had to work with. By using wrapped steel columns in the corners in 6-foot piers, carpenter-built trusses, and no ridge beams, we created good space usage underneath the pavilion. The steps were incorporated into the space to make the transition between the kitchen area and seating area, which looked like they were meant to be there. With a little additional flagstone work, we brought the curve of the step to meet the back island, which also created more floor space in the seating area. Two separate islands were created for the outdoor kitchen/bar area, built with galvanized metal studs to allow for more room inside the islands (for appliances and cabinets). We also used backer board and covered the islands with smooth finish stucco. The back island housed the BBQ, a 2-burner cooktop and sink, along with four cabinets, one of which was a pantry style cabinet with pull out shelves (air tight, dust proof and spider proof—also very important to the client). The front island housed the refrigerator, ice maker, and counter top cooler, with another set of pantry style, air tight cabinets.

By curving the outside edge of the countertop we maximized the bar area and created seating for eight. In addition, we filled in the curve on the inside of the island with counter top and created two additional seats. In total, there was seating for ten people. Infrared heaters, ceiling fans and shades were added for climate control, so the outdoor living space could be used year round. A TV for sporting events and SONOS for music, were added for entertaining enjoyment. Track lighting, as well as LED tape lights under the backsplash, provided ideal lighting for after dark usage. The clients selected honed, Fantasy Brown Satin Quartzite, with a chipped edge detail for their countertop. This beautiful, linear design marble is very easy to maintain. The base of the islands were completed in stucco and painted satin gray to complement their house color. The posts were painted with Monterey Cliffs, which matched the color of the house shutter trim. The pavilion ceiling consisted of 2 x 6-T & G pine and was stained platinum gray. In the few months since the outdoor living space was built, the clients said they have used it for more than eight parties and can’t wait to use it for the holidays! They also made sure to tell us that the look, feel and maintenance of the area all are perfect!

Для того, чтобы из многообразия видов беседок выбрать подходящую, следует не только определиться с основным материалом, но и учесть ландшафт и стилистику. Дело в том, что она должна представлять собой некое дополнение, не выделяться из общей концепции.

Различают несколько видов беседок для дачи:

1. Открытые – имеют вид легкой постройки, состоящие из основного каркаса и нескольких столбов по краям, которые можно украсить различными вьющимися растениями, в дальнейшем разрастающиеся по всему периметру строения.

2. Полуоткрытые – самые распространенные модели, причем к ним относятся не только беседки из классического дерева, но и своеобразные кованные конструкции.

3. Закрытые – представляют собой небольшие деревянные или кирпичные домики. Внутри очень часто устанавливается камин, печь или мангал, выделяется зона кухни и непосредственно помещение для отдыха.

Подходящий вариант по форме и размеру

Различные инновационные разработки дают возможность создать конструкцию абсолютно разнообразной формы, однако стоит рассмотреть наиболее часто встречающиеся из них:

• прямоугольные – представляют собой навес из поликарбоната на металлическом каркасе или постройку из кирпича или дерева;
• многоугольная – традиционный вариант полузакрытой беседки;
• круглые – постройки на столбах, имеющие самые современные конструкции, иногда бывают плетеные беседки из прутов ивы или камыша;
• комбинированные – имеют несколько площадей разнообразной формы, например, постройки в несколько этажей.

Выбор правильной формы играет немаловажную роль. Прямоугольная форма летней беседки отлично сглаживается различными кованными деталями или даже необычной каменной кладкой. Дачные беседки, имеющие круглую форму, отлично подходят в присутствии арок или необычной формы крыльца у главного дома.

Многоугольная постройка подойдет для любого дизайна и при наличии небольшого количества свободной площади.

Перед созданием беседки следует определиться с размерами, при этом следует учитывать пропорциональное соотношение всех архитектурных сооружений.

Несколько функциональных особенностей и основные этапы проектирования

Обустройство и вид садовых беседок зависит от того, насколько функциональной будет эта постройка. Если в ней подразумевается разместить мангал, то лучше выполнить сооружение из противопожарных материалов, например, кирпича или камня.

В данном случае должна быть зона кухни и отдыха, следовательно, постройка будет иметь достаточно большую площадь.

Наиболее классическим вариантом является небольшая беседка с пристроем в виде навеса, выполняющий функцию кухонного помещения.

При создании беседки самостоятельно рекомендуется использовать специальную сборную каркасную конструкцию, которая накрывается тентом.

В первую очередь следует определить тип фундамента:

• столбчатый – бюджетный вариант, подходящий для любого типа почвы;
• свайный – отлично подходит для неровных поверхностей;
• плиточный – имеет функцию пола в небольшой постройке;
• мелкозагрубленный – хороший вариант для комбинированных построек.

Следующим этапом будет создание чертежа, на котором обозначаются все строения и элементы, чертеж беседки также необходим.

Подходящий дизайн, необходимые материалы и декор

Наиболее востребованным материалом считается дерево. Это связано с простотой обработки и отсутствием дополнительного оборудования. Также материал является универсальным при создании абсолютно любого стиля.

Если в помещении планируется установить мангал, то лучше отдать предпочтение кирпичным постройкам.

Неплохим вариантом являются конструкции из металла, подходящие для территории с большим количеством растительности.

Помимо правильного и грамотного построения следует знать, как именно оборудовать и оформить помещение. Немаловажную роль играет освещение, так как оно может не только подчеркнуть дизайн, но и придать ей некую таинственность или загадочность.

Для построек открытого типа подойдет подсветка с внешней стороны в виде уличных фонарей, а для помещения – универсальная диодная лента или гирлянды. Отличным решением станет галогеновая подсветка имеющейся растительности. Кстати, ей стоит уделить особое внимание.

Перед входом в беседку можно разбить разнообразные цветники, на крыльце отлично смотрятся горшочные цветы, а под крышей развешивается кашпо, например, с ампельными растениями.

Не стоит забывать про занавески, чехлы на сиденья и подушки. Причем чехлы лучше использовать съемные и не пропускающие влагу.

При желании стоит приобрести садовые скульптуры, схожие по дизайну с беседкой. Например, в стиле рустики подойдут яркие сказочные персонажи или фигуры животных, а для прованса используются различные вазы и статуэтки.

Следует помнить, что для создания уникальной беседки вам понадобится проявить свое творчество, чтобы придать ей некую индивидуальность и особенность.
